A New Dimension in Film Score Sound Design

When we first released Dark Film Scores, our goal was to provide composers with a versatile collection of cinematic sounds for Arturia Pigments. The incredible response from our community inspired us to dive deeper into the darker corners of sound design. Phantom Frequencies is the result of that exploration – 42 carefully crafted presets that push the boundaries of what's possible with Pigments film score sounds.

What's Inside Phantom Frequencies?

Pigments Custom Sample - Banshee Chant

(one of the new custom samples Banshee Chant, included with the Phantom Frequencies sound bank)

We've focused on creating sounds that tell a story. Each preset in this collection has been designed with real scoring situations in mind:

  • Haunting Ambient SFX: Perfect for building tension in crucial scenes
  • Ominous Atmospheres: Create layered backgrounds that set the perfect mood
  • Gritty Wavetable Organs: Add a touch of gothic horror to your compositions
  • Distorted Basses: Drive the intensity with powerful low-end textures
  • Experimental Textures: Unique sounds that will help your score stand out

A majority of the presets in this add-on bank are Ambient SFX.  We also had fun putting in a few basses, organs, and tonal Pads/Atmos.  Here is a screen shot of one of the new presets "A Phantom Harmonic Atmos".   It uses the Pigment's Granular Engine with a reversed texture sample to create a nice ambient sound, with Engine 2 playing an arpeggiated piano sample (via quantized LFO on pitch) with a touch of overdrive distortion.

Real-World Applications for Film Composers

Whether you're scoring a horror film, creating sound design for a supernatural documentary, or producing dark ambient music, these Pigments presets offer immediate inspiration. We've made sure each sound is production-ready while remaining flexible enough for your personal touch.

Value Beyond Horror

While Phantom Frequencies excels at creating eerie and unsettling atmospheres, these sounds aren't limited to horror scoring. The presets work beautifully for:

  • Video game soundtracks
  • Dark ambient music
  • Sci-fi projects
  • Thrillers
  • True crime documentaries
